Different Product Versions

DIY FDM version

  1. Design preferences: focus on a reliable delivery of final result at a limited cost, suitable for weekend project.
  2. Prerequisites: access to entry level FDM printer, enough filament, able to do a simple print and finally put the puzzle together.
  3. Test conditions: generic entry level FDM printer, generic slicing software, generic PLA / PETG filament, 0.2mm layer thickness, speed ( 100% ), standard PEI board, orientation ( AUTO ), support ( OFF ), brim ( OFF ), no extra settings required. ( * )
  4. Delivers:
    1. [ downloadable ] STL files of moving parts and color tiles, pdf file of sticker files;
    2. [ shipped ] Spider / core set ( shells, clips, spring-nut-screw set ), connector pins.
  5. All moving parts and ( color ) tiles will be printed then assembled by yourself.
  6. Buyer automatically gets permission to sell the finished copy.
  7. Preparation time: standard ( 1 week ).

( * ) Test conditions are there mainly to control the minimum requirements. It’s actually a constraint put on the design. That is, if you are new to FDM printing, this minimum setting will work. While if you have more advanced control of FDM printing, there are plenties of room for optimization.

SLS / MJF version

  1. Design preferences: a handy collectible version taking advantages of SLS / MJF printing.
  2. Delivers: finished product.
  3. SLS / MJF are usually expensive and monochromatic. Fortunately we are able to save a lot by using mass produced cores. Color tiles are printed in PETG by FDM printer.
  4. Preparation time: 2 weeks ( before shipping ).

Mass Produced (MP) version

  1. Design preferences: usually designed for a production scale topping at a few thousand copies for a puzzle of average complexity ( Tuttminx for example ).
  2. Mass production requires big chunks of cash ( ~10k$ to start ) and will be controlled strictly in the future. Chance is that we’ll let pre-ordering / crowdfunding make their decisions when necessary.
  3. Delivers: varies.
  4. Preparation time: 3~6 months.
