#100 – Curvy Tuttminx V2
Price range: 12.00$ through 140.00$
A Tuttminx that rejects illegal moves reliably.
Description
This page is about a Curvy Tuttminx V2. The key feature of this Tuttminx is: it physically stops illegal moves.
Just like other random products, a twisty puzzle is associated with its defined functions. The motivation here is: to be a well defined product, it is desirable to not only define what it is but also rule out what it isn’t.
Illegal moves are rotations that are not intended but practically possible. For example, rotating a corner alone on a nowadays’ 3x3x3 cube is usually possible but not intended. In Tuttminx, the situation was not at all obvious and brought constant frustrations to users. Naturally you want to rule them out physically.
The method used in this Tuttminx looks nothing new but is in fact a generic design pattern that will benefit a number of designs.
Currently this product is provided in two versions.
1. DIY FDM version -> Refer to ‘Building DIY FDM Puzzles’ and Manual for Spherical Tuttminx.
- Design goals: focus on a reliable delivery of final result at limited cost, suitable for weekend project.
- Prerequisites: access to entry level FDM printer, enough filament, able to do a simple print and finally put the puzzle together.
- FDM Test conditions: generic entry level FDM printer, generic slicing software, generic PLA / PETG filament, 0.2mm layer thickness, speed (100%), standard PEI board, orientation (AUTO), support (OFF), brim (OFF), no extra settings required.
- Delivers:
- [downloadable] STL files of moving parts and color tiles, pdf sticker file;
- [shipped] Spider set ( shells, clips, spring-nut-screw set ), connecting screws;
- All moving parts and (color) tiles will be printed then assembled by yourself.
- Buyer automatically gets permission to sell the finished copy. [So it is no wonder when you see someone selling FDM version in finished or partially finished form. Always check with seller in prior! ]
- Preparation time: standard 1 week.
- Update 2026/05/19: After feedbacks from multiple FDM partners during the past weeks, a new version is designed. a) positioning pins replaced by screws for easier assembly, b) tiles are secured by surrounding undercut, c)all parts aligned to print board for easier printing, d) price +1$ for shifting from pins to screws (400 pcs (!)).

2. MJF version
- Design goals: a handy collectible version taking advantages of MJF printing;
- Delivers: finished product. It comes assembled with all color tiles installed. Leave a note or send us email if if you want to install color tiles by yourself (they were snapped into place).
- Bad news: MJF is expensive and monochromatic; Good news: we can save a lot by using mass produced cores and get all necessary PETG color tiles done by FDM printer.
- Preparation time: 2 weeks before shipping.
- There’s no reseller of this version, only available at this site. And it is significantly smaller than the FDM version.
Please refer to Different Product Versions for general version specific settings.
Enjoy!
